Some predicted them to be there, others totally forgot about them, here is the current top 5 of the NHL.

1 – Nashville Predators (32-11-6) 70pts 
Newest Nashville rookie, Filip Forsberg (44pts) and UFA, signed this summer, Mike Ribeiro (43pts), are leading this team offence to the first spot on top with 70 points in 49 games played. Their defence/goalie combo is one of their strongest of the league, according 111goals (second in the NHL). Pekka Rinne (29-6-2 1.96 .931%) and third scorer of the team, Shea Weber (34pts), are a big reason why they are so good defensively.

2 – Anaheim Ducks (32-12-6) 70pts
Ryan Getzlaf is the main reason why this team is currently sitting equal, but with one extra game played, with the first place at 70 points. Missing his line superstar partner, Corey Perry, for 14 games, did not stop him at all. Getzlaf is sitting with 50 points (15goals 35assists) in 49 games played. The team is getting a lot of help from the young defenceman Sami Vatanen (30 pts) playing more than 22 minutes per game. Frederik Andersen (27-7-5 2.27 .918%) is also stepping up his game in net this year. A very solid squad overall.

3 – St. Louis Blues (32-13-4) 68pts
Young prodigy Vladimir Tarasenko is leading this powerhouse with 25 goals and 25 assists (50 points) in 49 games played. Alexander Steen and Jaden Schwartz are helping this top NHL offense (2nd in the NHL in power plays, 3rd in the NHL for goals for with 154) with 17 goals each. They have a very solid defensive core, lead by Kevin Shattenkirk (40 pts) and Alex Pietrangelo (28 pts). Their number one goalie, Brian Elliott, didn’t get invited at the NHL All-Star for nothing either with a 15-5-2 1.99 .927% record.

4 – Tampa Bay Lightning (32-15-4) 68pts
When you take a look at their roster, statistics, you realize pretty quickly that their top 6 leading in points are their top 6 forward. Tyler Johnson (49points), Steven Stamkos (46points), Nikita Kucherov (43 points), Ondrej Palat (36 points), Ryan Callahan (35 points) and Valtteri Filppula (34 points) are the strength of Tampa Bay: their offence. Leading the league with 164 goals for in the NHL, expect them to some never ending offence.

5 – Montreal Canadiens (32-15-4) 67pts
Carey Price just got the NHL first star of the week, he won the Molson Cup for January 2015 and was also part of the NHL All-Star weekend. With a 27-10-2 2.03 .933%, Carey is leading this team to the #1 spot in goals against (110) and 5th in PK (84.3%). Max Pacioretty is the main part of the offensive side of Montreal with 23 goals and 17 assists (40 points) +23 in 49 games played. Canadiens’ 1st round pick (3rd overall) in 2012, Alex Galchenyuk, is second in points with 34 (15goals and 15 assists).
